Funeral Ministry
All parishioners are responsible for the ministry of consolation.
“There are many rooms in my father’s house” Jn 14:2
“For everything there is a season and a time……; a time to be born and a time to die” Ecc 3:1
Role in our lives
The funeral liturgy helps balance the need to console those who are mourning with Christ’s promise of Resurrection. The services provide means by which, with prayer and music, the community may support the grieving family from the time of death of a loved one to the final committal.
In our Parish, the funeral ministry team members assist the presiding priest and family at the funeral services.
The team is trained in its ministry and some members undergo Bethany Bereavement training.
The team attends at diocesan meetings with other parish teams as it seeks to develop this ministry into a team that can live the ministry of consolation to the full.
