COMMUNION

Sacraments of Initiation

The Eucharist is a meeting or assembly with Christ at his invitation. It sustains and reinforces the life in Christ begun in Baptism.

“I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfilment in the kingdom of God”
Lk 22:15-16.

Role in our Lives

The Eucharist is our living out of Jesus’ exhortation “Do this in remembrance of me” It is a celebration of what we do in our daily lives – Christ’s life in us.

In our Parish religious instruction in preparation for the sacrament of the Eucharist is organised through Parents’ Committees in the schools within the Parish. Teachers are employed to teach the Alive-O programme.

The following schools in the parish have catholic religious instruction committees:

  • Rathgar Junior (Quaker) 62 Grosvenor Road; Tel: 4972411.
  • Rathgar National School (Methodist), Rathgar Avenue; Tel: 4907661.
  • Kildare Place School (Church of Ireland) Upper Rathmines Road; Tel: 4065466.
  • St Peter’s, St. John of God, Lucena Clinic, Orwell Road; Tel: 4923596.

In September 2008, the “Do this in memory” programme was introduced. The programme consists of special liturgy, for first Holy Communion children and their families, and it forms part of the family mass on 10 Sundays of the year.

The Ministers of the Eucharist serve at the celebration of the Eucharist. They also bring Communion to the housebound and the sick on the behalf of the parish.

We also encourage you to use the ‘Children’s Corner’ on the Rathmines Parish website (www.rathminesparish.ie) which is filled with resources and videos for you and your children.
The upcoming dates for the DTIM masses are as follows, and we kindly ask that you please attend these masses with your child in order to best prepare them for First Holy Communion:

We look forward to continuing the journey with you and your family towards this special day.

Wishing you all a blessed Advent & Christmas,
